As a Resident Assistant at Tompkins Cortland Community College, I was entrusted with overseeing a floor of 30 students in the campus housing community, ensuring a safe and supportive living environment. My responsibilities included conducting regular patrols of seven campus buildings during overnight shifts to monitor student behavior, ensure safety, and identify any potential security risks. I wrote detailed reports documenting incidents such as drunken fights, parties, graffiti, and drug use, ensuring accurate records were maintained for future reference and action.
In addition to security and oversight, I took on a leadership role in planning and executing events aimed at fostering a positive community atmosphere. These events were designed to engage students, encourage social interaction, and enhance the overall student experience. Through this role, I honed my skills in conflict resolution, crisis management, and event coordination, while also strengthening my ability to communicate effectively and remain calm under pressure.
This position was pivotal in developing my project management and organizational skills, as I balanced my supervisory duties with the coordination of multiple activities for the student body. My experience in this role reinforced my leadership abilities and gave me the confidence to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and tact.
